Census 2010

In March and April you will have an opportunity to participate in the 2010 Census, a unique tradition in the United States.  As you may be aware, the Census is an effort to count all United States residents. The census has been mandated by the United States Constitution since 1790.  It is used to determine representation in the House of Representatives in addition to helping determine the allocation of federal funding to states and communities. Your participation in the Census is vital.

As members of this faith-based community and the communities in which we live and work, we have a lot at stake going into the 2010 Census.  Every year, the federal government distributes more than $400 billion to state, local and tribal governments based on census data.  Our organization can use the information to apply for grants and determine locations for new facilities.  By completing and returning your census form, you also help guide funding decisions for our schools, hospitals and child-care centers, as well as affect our voice in Congress.  The data collected are used to determine voting districts for all levels of city, state and nationally elected offices.  Play a role in important decisions that government leaders will make in the next 10 years.  Please complete and mail back your form and encourage your family, friends and neighbors to do the same. If you have questions in the meantime, you can go to http://2010.census.gov/2010census/

Epworth Future Plans Unfold...March 17

Epworth Future Plans Unfold

What are your dreams for Epworth?  Where would you like to see us be in 5 years?  The Trustees of the church have been presenting a wish list to various groups in the church that include 4 proposals that start small and then increase to even considering a new church building.  What capital improvements are important to you?  Do you like eveything just as it is with no expansion or upsgrades in the future?

You will have an opportunity March 17 (Wed.) to have your say from 5:30pm to 6:30 pm while we eat dinner at church.  We will have a church conference this spring to vote on a 5 year plan for our church and the trustees would like everyone to have a chance to decide what you think is important for our Epworth future.  After the 5 year plan has been voted on we will be deciding on how to raise the capital for any proposed expansion or upgrade to the facility,.  This capital expansion plan effects everyone.  Let's talk about it on Wed. the 17th.   Hope to see you.

Haiti Emergency Collection

How You Can Help Haiti

A massive, 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti near the capital of Port-au-Prince on Tuesday, January 12th. The damage to buildings is extensive and the number of injured or dead is estimated to be in the hundreds, even thousands.

Your can help in one of two ways:

1. Send in monetary donations
2. Purchase items needed for the Health Kit.

Epworth UMC will be packing and preparing Health Kits for the UMCOR Haiti disaster relief. Health Kits will provide basic necessities to the people in Haiti.

The cost to fill each bucket is about $12. Checks can be made payable to Epworth with a note in the memo reading Health Kit.

The following NEW items are needed:

1 hand towel (15" x 25" up to 17" x 27", No kitchen towels)
1 washcloth
1 comb (large and sturdy, not pocket-sized)
1 nail file or fingernail clippers (no emery boards or toenail clippers)
1 bath-size bar of soap (3 oz. and up)
1 toothbrush (single brushes only in original wrapper, No child-size brushes)
6 adhesive plastic strip sterile bandages
1 gallon plastic bag (is needed for each complete kit)
$1.00 to purchase toothpaste
(NOTE: UMCOR Sager Brown is now purchasing toothpaste in bulk to be added to health kits before shipping to ensure that the product does not expire before they are sent.)

Thanks for helping UMCOR to help others.
